VICIOUS WARFARE

RIVAL BOOTLEGGING GANGS BOMBS v- MACHINE-GUNS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. NEW, YORK, November 12. A message from Herrin (Illinois) states that members of rival bootlegging gangs tire now using airplanes to carry on a vicious guerrilla warfare. A low-flying 'airplane circled the house of a gang leader and dropped three bombs. The first exploded a hundred yards from the house and did no damage. The other two were duds. The gangsters ran from the building and opened fire on the airplane with machine-guns and rifles, while the ’plane circled the house three times, zoomed, and sped away. The pilot was unhurt, keeping well under cover.
