ALICE PARKINSON
CASE TO BE REVIEWED. LEGISLATION TO BE INTRODUCED. The case of Alice Parkinson', who, some five years ago, u‘as sentenced to life imprisonment for manslaughter, a-t Napier, has again been receiving the consideration of tho Government. From time to time numerous petitions and resolutions have been presented to the Government asking for the circumstances of the prisoner’s case to be considered with a view to her release being granted. _ Tho Minister for Justice, the Hon. E. P. Lee, stated to a “New Zealand Times” reporter yesterday that Cabinet had decided upon the introduction of legislation which would allow of Alice Parkinson’s case, and similar cases, to bo placed under the jurisdiction of the Prisons Board. Should Parliament pass the legislation proposed, it would enable the cases to bo considered by tho Prisons Board, which will have power to make a recommemlation to His Excellency the Governor-General for the release tipon probation of the prisoners situated as Alice Parkinson is. if the board deems such notion advisable;
