HOROWHENUA COUNTY

MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL. Special to the "Times." OTAKI, Monday. The ordinary monthly meeting of the above council was held at Levin on Saturday. Present: Councillors G. A. Monk (chairman), F. Cbley, F. J. Eyder, J. R. Whyte, H. Barber, W. J. Bryant, S. A. Broadbelt, C. I. Harkness. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows: L. Birks (Government engineer) offered to meet a conference of local bodies to discuss the hydro-electrio scheme, now being carried out at Mangahao.—Referred to the committee previously appointed. State Advances Office forwarded .£750 for work to be done on Otaki Gorge road.— Received. Bay of Islands County Council asked to bo supported in a resolution to the Government enforcing the payment of rates on native lands.—To be supported. Hutt Town Board asked' for copy of the agreement entered into council and the Hutt County Council relative to the maintenance of boundary roads.— To be supplied. A. Seifert (Palrnerston) suggested the council contribute towards the coat of maintenance of tho Shannon Borough roads—No action. W. Book (Foxton) askod for drain improvement (Newman's).—Left to councillors for tho riding. ICuker Dairy Co. stated tho wishes of the Health Department would be carried out at the factory as soon as cement was available. —Received. V. u. Hunter (Ohau) asked for pipc9 to bo supplied for drainage improvomonit.—To be attended ito. H. J. Smith (Koputaroa) asked for drainage improvement.—To lecei vo attention. Farm settlers of Koputaron offered to contribute up to .£-1 5s per chain for drain completion.—To be attended to. Brandon and Hislop (Wellington) asked if the council would split tho difference in dispute (£42,) relative to the Paiaka road (Higginson's).—Referred to a committee with power to act. Several settlers of Otaki complained of the provalence of wandering stock in their district—Tho ranger reported that he was taking court proceeding*. D. Noble (Otaki) askod that tho Rahui drain be cleaned, as water was backing up and flooding his property.—To be attended to.
