PROFITEERS PUNISHED
What is stated to be. the first case in (Queensland heard under the ProfiteoriuK Act of 1320, came before the Police Court at Maryborough, when the Commissioner of Prioes proceeded against Denhams, Limited, Maryborough, charging them with having committed a breach of the Act. in that they sold a quantity of sugar at, the rate of 4 23-28 d per lb, such price being higrhor than the declared price, namely, 3Jd. Tho defendant firm pleaded guilty. Sir Moroton stated the breach had occurred through tho absence of information, tho proclamation with reference! to the prioo fixed having been published in tho Government "Gazette" and Brisbane Press on Saturday, March 27th, but not in the local Press.
