Saturday's sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was presided over by Mr E. .Page, S.M.
Ope first offending inebriate was fined ss. . Sub-Inspector .Emerson stated that the man was a labourer, and on Priday night went to his homo in Tory street and commenced to smash the crockery and window-panes. "As you are only a first offender,’* said M*r Page, "I have no power to issue an order except with your consent.” REMANDED.” ‘ ’
Edward Ralph Martin, a coloured man, was remanded to appear at Christchurch on Wednesday next(, on a charge of hav. ing failed to comply with the terms ot a maintenance order made in favour of his wife. , JUVENILE OFFENDERS.' A sitting ot the Juvenile. Court w,a» presided over by Mr E., Pagg,. S.SJ, ... . Two schoolboys, ono twelve years of age and.the other ton, were charged wita having stolen a collection of old coins, valued at .£2O, the property of Alfred Peck. The latter stated that his house, off Tasman street, had boon broken into, three times within a few weeks. A loan, tain pen and a greenstone tiki, together with about 100 coins, had been stolen from a deed box. The coins were valuable to him, ns a collector, but tor the sako®of the boys ho assessed their value us 10s.
Mr C. A. L. Treadwell represented the hoy of twelve, who pleaded not guilty, while the younger bov admitted breaking a window and stealing the coins. Further consideration of the case was adjourned—in the case of the older boy, for six, months, and in the other case for two years, during which period the boys would have to report themselves to the Probation Officer (Mr J. Dineen).
