INTERESTING GAMES CHAMPIONSHIP CONTESTS CONTINUED ON SATURDAY.
The senior championship and other matches were continued again at Karori Park on Saturday. There was a large number of spectators and. as the afternoon remained fine they were treated to some good displays and excellent contests, the Wakatu v.- Wellington game especially being quite exciting. The playing fields were heavy and slippery after the heavy rains, hut taken all round play was -of a fast order. • WAKATU v. WELLINGTON. ■ Wakatu, the only team in the senior competition without a defeat,' kept up their record toy defeating Wellington after a strenuous game by threo goals to two. , . Wakatu pressed from the opening bully and catried the white to ■'Wellington’s twenty-five, where Anderson, right full-toack, hit out to the centre. Ultimately this resulted in Wellington conceding a corner to Wakatu, Stratton, a dangerous player when in his opponents circle, had a shot, but Cbarapuess relieved. Keeping up the pressure Wakatu indulged in some pretty passing rushes, and only good play bv Smart and Anderson stopped them in the circle. Price and Surgenor, for Wellington, mado a lino’ run on the right wing, being supported by Ashwin and Johns, and they carried play into Wakatu’s circle, where Cunningham, the custodian, cleared. 'Wakatu immediately (set off goal hunting again, but an infringement on the edge of the circle spoiled their chances. . Prom the twenty-five Wellington made a determined attack on Wakatu’a goal, but Sherwood, at right fullback, cleared with his usual long hit to the line. From the line-out Wakatu a nice passing rush, in which D. Hood, W T ilson, and Whittaker figured prominently, and when within shooting distance Stratton made another attempt to score, . tout Armstrong (in goal) was safe. Bay opened up an attack for Wellington, the ball nassing from Sur : genor to O’Brien and Champness, who tqok it into the circle, but with no result. Sherwood obtained the ball and sent it into mid-field, a melee resulting, from the melee Edwards and Fittal pass-’ fed to D, Hood, who took the ball up to Wellington’s circle, where he opened the score with a pretty shot. Wakatu 1, Wellington 0. • Wellington now pressed, but Sherwood sent the ball back to the Centre with a speculator. O’Brien. Johns, Ashwin, and Bateman, for Wellington, indulged in a fine forward movement, Champness and O’Brien having snots which, however, proved fruitless. Sherwood again cleared with a good placed hit to the centre, and following up, the forwards removed play to the edge of the circle, where Wilson stepped in and placed the ball in the net, just on half* time. • W T akatu 2, Wellington 0. On resuming, the Wellington forwards worked play into Wakatu’s quarter, and remained there practically all of tho second spell. Maintaining the pressure, Wakatu tried hard to increase the score, but Smart and Anderson, the full-backs, continually- succeeded in nullifying , the attacks. Wellington then broke away, and Bay and Ashwin took the white up to the circle, where Champness scored the first goal. Wakatu 3, Wellington 1. From this on Wakatu had a very busy time stemming rushes by tho Wellington forwards, and shortly afterwards Johns took a nice pass ayid managed to shoot the equaliser. Wakatu 2, Wellington 2. Immediately afterwards Wakatu sot up an attack, in which all ■ the forwards, Fittal and Tates, took, part, and from a difficult angle D. Hood scored again. Wakatu 3, Wellington 2.’ Up and down play of a very fast nature was the order until the call of time, but the scores were unaltered. Mr Grade was referee. HUIA t. HUTT VALLEY. Hoia, met and defeated Hntt Valley by four gods, to one, after a very hard and fast game. Halewood (2), Littlejohn (1), and Keys (1) scored for the winners, and Smith for Hutt Valley. Mr McKenzie controlled, the game. * UNITED v. UNIVERSITY. This match provided an even and interesting contest. United just securing the victory from- University,-by two goals, to nil. . Emery, and N. Boyd, for United, were tho scorers. Tho referee was Mr Needham. KARORI v. ST. AUGUSTINE'S. Karori and St. Augustine's met and a fast game resulted, the former team winning by. four goals to two.. Bell. Muir, Kilmister, and Leaver, with one each, were the scorers for Karon, ana Webley and Scott for tho- other side Mr B. A. Ginger controlled the game. RAMBLERS v. CENTRAL. Central were defeated Jiy Ramblers by seven goals to five. For Ramblers, Smith i(3), Frcderickson (2;, Johnston, Heaphy, and Loader, 1 each, wore the scorers, and Johnston (8), and Daven. port and Trilford, T each.' registered for Central. , • JUNIOR GAMES. Wesley Rovers beat University B by three goals, Johnston (2) and Cpllins G) being tho scorers. Referee, Mr A. Muir. Huia with five goals defeated University A one goal. Miles scored for ’Varsity, and Farr (2), Butcher (2), Clark (1) for Huia. Mr E. Wallace was the referee. .Wesley. A won from St.. Augustine’s by six goals to nil. Burton (2), Mills (2). Stokes and Harper were the scorers. Referee, Mr A. Muir. Y.M.C.A. defeated Karori by four goals tto two, Pbilpotts (2). Smith and itixon* one each registering for tho winners and Waters (2) for the other side. Tho reforoo was Mr R. J. Lloyd. LADIES’ MATCHES. SENIOR GRADE. Training College with threo goals, defeated Audit one goal: Miss Evans (2), and Miss Alexander did the scoring for Training College, and Miss Moffett for Audit. Mr B. J. Lloyd was tho referee. University won easily from Y.W.C.A. by five goals to nil. Missos Rickard (3) and Caull scored. Mr B. A. Ginger was the referee. Ramblers A won from Girls’ College by five to one. Misses Williams (3). Allen and Cooper one each, registered for Ramblers, and Miss Grant for College. Referee, Mr McKenzie. JUNIOR GRADE.
St. Augustine's two goals, defeated Kia Ora nil. Misses Spence and Wilson did the scoring. Mr Edwards was the referee.
Hutt Valley with two goals won from Girls’ College nil. Hiss Ferguson accounted for both goals. Eeferee, Mr Bay. Y.W.C.A. won narrowly from Audit hr one goal to nil, the scorer being Miss Hayvice. Hcferee, Mr Webley. Centics, playing at Miramar, defeated Miramar by three goals to nil. Goals were scored for Centics by,Miss McLean (2) and Miss Vannini. The ,wh;s f 'e was in tha hands of Mr K. Bargh.
