During an attack ou the police barracks at Carraghdrohid, County Cork, a constable dropped his rifle and played a violin, with the idea of cheering his comrades. Tho Dublin Recorder has awarded £4650 to the widow and £2OOO each to tho two daughters of Commissioner Redmond; also £SOOO to the widow of Mr Bell. Mr Redmond (AfisistanKPolico Commissioner) was shot outside the Sinn Fein headquarters in Harcourt street, Dublin, in January last. Two shots were fired from tho opposite side of tho street, and Mr Redmond was found with an automatic pistol in his baud. It is surmised that ho drew tho pistol after tho first shot, which missed. The second penetrated the brain, arid death was instantaneous.
