MR H. G. MILLER SELECTED. Tho Rhodes Sholar Selection Committee, consisting of His Excellency tho Governor-General, the 1 Earl of Liverpool (chairman). Sir Robert Stout (Chancellor of the Now Zoalnnd University benate), Sir Worley Bassett Edwards (representing the judiciary), and' Professors J. P. Gabbalt (Canterbury), T. A. Hunter (Victoria). CJ -E. Thompson (Otago), and Maxwell Walker (Auckland), mot yesterday morning to select a Rhodes Scholar in the place of Mr H. A. Mackenzie,' who has relinquished the Rhodes Scholarship for-the present year, as holder of tnc N.Z.E.F. Scholarship in France. There were two candidates, one from Auckland University College and the other from Victoria College. Hie committee, after careful consideration, 'selected Mr Harold Gladstone" Miller, of Victoria College. Tho successful candidate is aged 22, and was educated at Maaiterton Listriyt High School from lboo to 1910, and at Victoria ollogo from 1916 to 1920. He graduated in 1918, wininng a senior scholarship in Economics, and passed his M.A. degree last year with lirst-oluss Jibuours in philowophy, and was awarded a Jacob Joseph. Research Scholarship and u.freo passage to Eng. laud. In athletics he has distinguished himself throughout as a footballer, being captain of the Wairarapa Public Schools fifteen in 1914-16, Wairarapa ■ representative in 1916, and North Island University representative in 1920. Ho was also a, member of the cricket eleven. In tho social activities of college life he was runner-up iin the Pluuket Medal contest of 1918, president of the Christian Union in 191,0, and subeditor of “Tho Spike” in 1020, besides taking a prominent part ni the preparation of the college exfiraraganzas.
