At the meeting of the Homo Service League of New Zealand it was stated that a. petition had been drawn up for presentation to Parliament. That petition was designed for tho following objects;—fa) To obtain the payment of a war gratuity to members of the league; (b) to bring about tho enactment of legislation whereby members of the league should ho entitled to participate in the benefits and privileges of the Dichargod Soldiers’ .Settlement Act, UUI, and the Repatriation Act, USDS, and any amendments thereof; (c) to obtain for members demobilised or discharged the payment of the mufti allowance as paid to members of tho New Zealand Expeditionary Force who served overseas; (d) to obtain payment of tho in-, creased separation allowance to membora affected, such payment to he made retrospective to the date of the gazetting of the increase; (e) t,o obtain-the issue of tho King’s silver war budge aitd the general service medal and ribbon. or some similar recognition of service in the form of an authorised medal to members not in receipt of either or both; (f) to obtain for members redress or assistance in any matters of hardship or loss arising out of or attributable to military servic’d.
The Makara County Council yesterday “received’'’ the following resolution from the Ray of Islands County Council- “That tho Prime Minister bo urged to introduce at the mining session legislation giving local bodies full power to enforce the payment ol ratco by MilotifV or providing for pay. Piont of native rates by tho Governinent.”
