Moderate shipments of fruits consisting of oranges, pines, and mandarins came to hand by last steamer from Sydney, also small consignments of South Australian lemons via Melbourne, the bulk of which arrived in good order, and met with a satisfactory demand. Choice dessert apples and pears are again in good demand, and the same remark applies to passions, quinces, and tomatoes. Tho market is bare of Island oranges, pending arrival of fresh consignments, due pbr Moana on about the 20th inst. Several steamers have been delayed in unloading, lack of trucks and labour being jointly responsible. In one case, that of tho Waitorao. tho belated departure of which for northern ports is causing congestion of produce at Lyttelton, tho position has never been worse, Coastal boats to and from Auckland, which previously did tho return run comfortably in thirteen days, non average -tlirro weeks. which is due solely to tho inefficient labour at tho wharves. On top of this the . inadequacy of tho supply of . trucks and the handling of those available is causing delay iu tho departure of vessels. The position Is stagnating business and with both merchants and growers it is a case of standing by. Thorn is no quotable change in valuev, though tho circumstances alluded in are having an casing tendency. Tho rains in Australia re-
