FEROCIOUS DOGS
COURT OASES FOLLOW. In tho Magistrate’s Court -yesterday. George A. Kicly was called nfion to answer a charge of being, the owner of dog that attacked, a horse in a public place. Tho statement .made by the ponce showed that a bulldog belonging to the defendant made its way on to the larauaki street wharf and attacked a horse which was standing in one of Messrs Hunt, Cottrell’s lorries. The dog held on determinedlly, and bad to be stunned with an iron bar before be -could be freed from the horse. ' 1 he'owner of the dog was' not present, and it was understood that it was the first time that the dog-had,showm a tendency to attack any other animal. Mr \V. Perry, who appeared for the accused, said tbatJKieiy liad nadertak-. en to pay the veterinary surgeon for attending to the injured animal, and on that .account be asked that,only a. small fine ba imposed. _ ' Tho accused was convicted and fined - £1 with costs amounting to-£1 7s. In another case in which a dog belonging to S. Phillips .bad bitten;; a child. who was in a yard, ..the ownjr was_ fined £1 with costs!" and ordered to keep the dog (which., was used as a watchdog) chained up during the day, and when loose to have a muzzle placed The defendant said his premises had been robbed .on throe pccasions, and bo had obtained the dog—a,, collier—for protection. Boys were in thn habit of teasing it, and that was the reason that it bit them. •'
