. ENGLAND AND AUSTRALIA. CHANCES OF VISIT TO NErf ZEALAND. PER PREPS ABSOCIVTIOS. CHRISTCHURCH, June 10. . At ,„a meeting of the management committee; of the New Zealand Cricket Council to-night, a letter was received from the secretary of, the Australian Board of. Control with reference to the proposed visit of an English team. The writer stated that ho had received, a cable from the Council as follows: — ‘‘Would it be possible to arrange a' programme for the English team to allow them to visit the Dominion in March?” In reply he had to state ; it would not he possible to accede to the request, as the English team would he fully occupied with the Australian programme • right up to the, date of sailing from South Australia towards the end of March. The writer men-' tioned that in the event of an Australian team* visiting England at the conclusion of next season, it was probable' they would travel by the Panama Canal cn route, and in that case it might be possible to arrange a match with a Dominion team on the days the Australian team would be in New . Zealand, awaiting its departure. The writer wished the matter to bo brought under the notice of the Connci], and' to know, whether they would bo prepared to give a, guarantee, and what amount, for a two or three days’ fixture,,as suggested. The writer further stated that he did not think there was any likelihood of the board or any of the association being able to send a team to the Dominion next season, in view of the English visit, but the whole question would bo gone into at the next meeting of the board. Consideration of the matter was deferred until next meeting.
