CITY MILK SUPPLY
' DEBIT BALANCE FOR MAY. REDUCTION OF 30,000 GALLONS THIS MONTH. A report upon tho financial result of tho city milk supply far May was presented at last night's meeting of the City Council by the milk committee. The report showed that the total number of gallons treated during tho month was 128,607}; the revenue amounted to £9115 Is sd, or Is 5d per gallon. 'The coat per gallon was Is OJd, and the working expenses !Lrl A debit balance was shown for tho month of £4145 2s 6d. Commenting upon the debit balance shown on tho operations foi tho month, Councillor W. H. Bennett, tho chairman of tho committee, said that he hoped next month’s returns would meet liabilities, and that they would wipe something off tho debit. The distribution this month was over 1000 gallons less daily than this time last year. Tho council was then receiving between 300 and 400 gallons daily from Bunnythorpo, but that had now been out oil. Other supplies wore being received last year from Feat herston, amounting to about 800 gallons daily, but tho committee vas not now in a position to pay the amount necessary for this supply. Tho milk committee reported that they had received a report from the assistant-general manager of the milk department showing the cost incurred in tho carriage of milk to the cj*y during the recent, railway dislocation to b0£412 Is 10d" The total number of gallons brought into the city was 11,270. It was necessary to procure a motor-car for the use of the department. The committee’s, report was adopted.
