LOCAL SECTION TO BE FORMED,

A social meeting of the menfbers of the English Institute’of- Electrical Engineers, called together by-Mr J. Orchiston; late chief telegraph engineer and local honorary" secretary of the institute, and Mr Li Dirks, chief electrical engineer of--The': Public Works’ Department, was held ’at the Kiosk, Kelburn. A number;'of subjects of interest to electrical ', engineers . was discussed, and the.(benefits of Laving a live Dominion centre of the’ institution, Where electrical engineering matters of Dominion importance could'receive full consideration, were freely recognised. With this end in view:it .was.proposed to take the necessary action t.o set about the establishing of . a local section (New Zealand) of the institution, and a provisional committee was set up as follows:—Mr Black, Mr Lauphlin; Mr Shrimpton, Major StanupTayior, Mr Gibbs, Professor Muredeii, Mr Cable, -Hr Brent (secretary to provisional committee)- Jn New Zealand there are about 100 members of the institute of all grades. _ The institution is a world-wide one. having- a total clientele of some nine or ten thousand.
