A DRIFTING STEAMER
THE HAVRE’S PLIGHT DESPERATE EFFORTS TO MAINTAIN STEAM. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright MELBOURNE, June 9. The master of the Havre baa wirelessed that tho vessel is at her last gasp. Ho is unable to maintain sufficient steam to keep seaway. The engineers are utilising everything that will burn, including the ship’s furniture. Tho Australind, bound from London to Alolbournc, is in communication with the Havre and expects to reach tho latter on Friday. BRISBANE, Juno 9. A wireless message from the Havre picked up at noon, yesterday, stated that she was then somewhere abreast of Smoky Cape, and drifting towards Sydney. A message late last night indicated that sho was still steadily drifting. ■ The Champion was not thou in touch by- wireless. The'weather was favourable. LATEST ADVICE. (Received Juno 10, 1.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, Juno 9. Tho agents of the steamer Havre state that the vessel is well provisioned, having three months’ supplies on board. A wireless message picked up reports “All well.” The vessel is drifting south-east at the rate of three mites an hour. Tho tug Heroic has been equipped with wireless and dispatched to join in the search.
