MILD INFLUENZA CASES

In consonance with the practice noif obtaining in other countries, and ,in view of the marked decrease in the number of influenza cases, the Education Department, stated the Hon, C. J. Parr to a “Times” representative yesterday, has decided to ‘abolish the system of notifying the ordinary mild cases of influenza. These cases were, coming in in thou-, sands per week recently, and cost the department several thousands ol pounds, as a fee is paid for each notification. Ninety-nine per cent, oi the cases were of a very mild typo, and no useful public object was served by tho department notifying them. Of course, in the sev oror types oj influenza, including pneumonic cases, the most careful stringency with regard to notification will still be observed.
