CADETS’ COMPETITION
EMPIRE CHALLENGE SHIELD, THE DOMINION SCORES. For some weeks past shooting teams from the public and secondary schools throughout the Dominion, have been engaged in firing oil in connection witn the competition tor the Imperial Challenge Shield. The competition is hold annually under the auspices of the National Rifle Association, and its object is to encourage every boy throughout the British Empire to learn how to use a rifle. A silver challenge shield, valued at .£IOO, a bronze replica, as well as silver and bronze commemoration medals and many cash prizes are offered to the successful teams by Lieutenant-Colonel It. W. Ffennol, of South Africa. This year 07 trams from New Zealand entered for the competition in the senior grade (boys over 18 years of age), and 30 teams in the junior grade (under 18). The teams comprise over 1000 hoys; the number is smaller than last year, but is nevertheless a, good representation for the Dominion. The results of the shooting are being forwarded to England, and an announcement of the successful teams is expected somewhere about November.
