BY-LAW OFFENCES
VARIOUS OFFENDERS FINED. Tlie following by-law cases were dealt with by Messrs R. D. Hanlon and J. Kerr, J.P.’s, in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday afternoon:— Reginald John Buchanan t for leaving a motor-cycle standing m a street was convicted and fined 10s, with costs ' 3 William Lynn Burn was fined £l, with costs 7s for riding a motor-cycle on a footpath. Sub-Inspector Emerson said that the accused rode a motorcycle on tho footpath along Thorndon quay-and collided with an invalid who was in a chair. Tho chair wa« injured but the occupant was not hurt- Burn rendered all the assistance that was In his power, and had undertaken to repair the damage done to the chair. Arthur Leslie Harper, for leaving a motor-oar in Ballance street at night without a light, was fined 10s and costs 7s. and W. G. Talbot, for a similar offence in Featherston street, was fined £1 with 7s costs. For failing to stop a - motor-car .ho was driving, when requested to do so by a constable, John Richard Taylor was mulcted to the extent of £1 7s. ■ Patrick Cavanagh, on two charges of allowing stock ,to wander, was fined 10s and 7s costs on tho first information and £1 with coats on the second, while Bertram T. Bavliss was fined 5s with costs 7s, G. Hobbs £l, costs 7s, and John Richard Welsby 10s, costs 7s. for committing similar'offences. For expectoration on the floor of a tramca.r, Elijah Smith, who pleaded guilty, was fined £l, with coat® 7s. Mr J. O’Shea, who prosecuted on behalf of the Citv Corporation, said the accused was asked to desist by the conductor of the tram and refused to do so. -
