HUTT COUNTY
MEETING OF COUNCIL. ROAD WORKS DETAILED. The monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council was held yesterday, when tho following were present:— Councillors M. W. Welch (in tho chair), W. J. Howell. J. Whiteman, J. Barclay, P. Cavanagn. INSPECTOR’S REPORT. Tho inspector (Mr J. W. • Cudley), reported that a “42” concrete culvert had been put in .at Kaitoko, after tho old bridge had been removed and the hollow filled in. A small bridge on Russell’s road at Whiteman’s Valley, near tho junction of the two roads, needed considerable repairs, but instead of renewing in timber, tho inspector recommended it bo “concretetreated” exactly as was done in the case of tho Kaitoko bridge. A portion of tho Horokiwi Valley road nad been repaired and considerably improved, and the water channels on Moonshine Hill road werer- being cleared.
The main road cast of' Silverstream was being patched up, portion of which was in a very rough state. Tho same state applied to main ro ads in all ridings, where in parts they were fairly good and others very bad. A start had been made with the road work on Ngarara and Muapoko block, on the soldiers’ settlement at Paranaraumn, and considering the bad weather since the work was undertaken. very pood progress had been made. The rock quarrying contract in the Horokiwi riding had been completed, and the crushing plant had been taken to tho_ riding to commence crushing operations. _ Accounts amounting to £ll6 5s were * passed for payment.
