HOTELS IN CITY
CONDUCT SATISFACTORY ANNUAL MEETING OF'LICENSING COMMITTEE'. The annual mooting 0 f 'the City Licensing Committee was held .yesterday, Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M., presiding. There were also present with him on the Bench: —Messrs A. J. Pcthorick, C. W. Chilmau. J. Smith, E. Meadowcroft, and W. J. Helper.
Inspector AAL B. Mellveney reported that during itdio past six months a very great and general improvement in the conduct- of licensed houses in the Wellington district had been noted by tho sectional sergeants. In the past tlu'oo months, not a single complaint had been received from the public regarding the conduct of any hotel in Wellington, which was very satisfactory. “SCRUPULOUSLY CLEAN.” ■ Generally speaking, tho promises were in good condition, comfortably furnished, and scrupulously dean. The only exceptions in respect of condition were tho smaller old wooden premises, tho exteriors of which, while cvidcut- ; ly of sound timber, required slight renovation and painting. The outside appearance of those promises was no guide to the internal state and furnishing for, almost without exception, the internal arrangements were ns faultless as any reasonable person should expect ta find in. places of sue!) pretension. Mr W. G. Riddell said that tho committee was very pleased with the report, more especially in view of the fact that at the last November mooting it vv aß reported that the conduct of certain hotels was not such as met with the approval of tho police. APPLICATIONS -ADJOURNED.
