CONCILIATION
SEVERAL DISPUTES SETTLED. The visit of the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr W. Newton) to Nelson, Grcymouth, and Marlborough districts last week wax attended with satisfactory results in several industrial disputes that came before conciliation councils over which he presided. A complete settlement _ was effected in the furniture trades dispute in all three districts. T!iq Marlborough building trades dispute, affecting carpenters, builders, plumbers, and painters, all of whom come under the one award, was satisfactorily settled. A partial settlement was arrived at In the typographical workers’ case, wages and other matters being deferred pending a settlement in tho larger centres. In most instances the terms -iereed upon were ns set down bv the Arbitration Court for skilled trades.
