In Syria, the French columns operating in tho Tyre region against the Mctwalis, who recently massacred seventy Christians, have swept the country as far as tho southern boundary of French territory. By an oversight a village in the British zone was bombarded and. occupied, but tho French commander has undertaken that this will not recur. Westward of the source of tho river Jordan a French column mot with considerable opposition, and had not reached its objectives by May' 25 tb. Large numbers of refugees have " fled into the British zone and refuse to return.
