AREA TO. BE OPENED. Tho settlement of largo areas *>i Crown lands east of OnKaruc and Waimihia was brought under the* notice ol the Alinistcr for Bands by a larso deputation at Te Kuiti in March last. Tho Hon. Air Guthrie has forwarded the following reply to Mr Tv*. T. Jennings, M.P. ;—“Fifteen thousand acres will be placed on the market in two months’ time. Tho other lands referred to east of the above are now being explored by a surveyor to see how they may be best used for settlement purposes. The other land between the Slain Trunk 1 railway and the above portions of Groan lands are native leases, and the deputation's suggestion that they should Ihi purchased and settled is impracticable.
