THE HUAPAI FATALITY DEATH OF -MR K. KINLOCH. In connection with the death of Mr Richard Kinloch, junr., son of Mr Richard Kinloch, veterinary surgeon, who was found shot dead at Huapai on Monday, with his gun, containing a discharged cartridge, by him, an iufjucet was hold, and a verdict was brought in that he died by his own hand while of unsound mind. The late Mr Kinloch had suffered from the effects of the war, where he saw four years’ service and was gassed. Occasionally fits of depression tamo over him, and it is supposed that in one of these he committed the rash act. Mr Kinloch was one of the masters at the Auckland Grammar School, and had been looking forward to resuming his duties there, but was recommended to take a period tm the land to fully recover his health. The deceased was an old Grammar School hoy, and'gained a scholarship to ’ the University, where ho had a brilliant career, gaining more scholarships, and had almost completed his Jaw course when he vounteered for active service. ATTEMPTED SUICIDE IX AUCKLAND. Thomas Ryan, aged fifty years,, an attendant at tho Costley Hume, wan admitted to the Auckland Hospital with his throat cut, Ryan went on duty at 6 o’clock and retired to his room an hour later. Shortly afterwards blood was noticed in the passage outside his door, which was found to be locked. On the door being opened with another key no trace of Ryan could be found. A pool of blood on tho floor and a razor in an opened drawer of a chest, however, told what had ’ happened. A search was instituted, and towards 11 o’clock Ryan was found on the slopes of Onetree Hill in a semi-conscious condition by Constables Wales and Anni-s. He was immediately taken to the hospital in a critical condition.
