FIXTURES. June 3 and 4—Otaki Maori R.C. Winter. Juno 3,3, and 7 —Auckland R.C. Winter. Juno 10 and 12 —Gisborne R.C. Steeplechase. June 18 and' 19—Napier Park R.C. Winter. Juno 23, 24, and 26 —Hawke’s JBav J.C. and Ilauke’s Bar Hunt Winter. NOTES AND COMMENTS (By “Carbine.”) There will be racing in several parts of Now Zealand to-day. Nearest home is the Otaki .gathering, which commences to-day, and Auckland to-morrow. At Kllcrslio the Groat Northern meeting begins and it will bo continued over Saturday and Monday. The second day of the Dunedin meeting will bo held today, and on Saturday the southern nature ends.
For Otaki, excellent acceptances have been received, and a good clay’s .racing can be looked forward to. The course will be very heavy, and form may be considerably upset. For the Flying Hack Handicap an acceptance of .seventeen was announced, but this number will not go to the post The Trentham mare. Arch Lassie, is nicely handicapped, and should run a good race. Crucelle and Generalissimo may both be bard to beat if startedTwo of the best-weighted for the Rankawa Cup (Sunartand Bonnie Maidl are held up in tho south. Had Sunart been or the premises he would havo gone out favourite. Of what is left Depredation, Red Ribbon, and Nobleman read the best.
Although those at the head of the handicap in the Otaki Hack event have a lot of weight, the light division are poor. Simon may run well, Pnntemps strikes one as the pick of the handicap.
In the Toipua Handicap, the principal sprint event of the day, class is not well represented. 80-Peep and Daytime aro the best of those engaged, and, with Matatua, they may sso out the finish. If reserved for the Birthday Welter Printemps and Miss .Land should both run well*
"Principal interest in the EUerslie events to-day will be centred in the Great Northern Hurdles and the Cornwall Handicap. Por tho Hurdles, Lochella is a. firm favourite. Luperino was early in .the boom, but doubts about his seeing the post have been expressed. However, h© has accepted. Last year's winner. Cynic, is in with a moderate weight, and ho would only have to jump well to be the most dangerous in the race. Among the bottom weights i» Mill o* Gowrio, a mare with considerable nace and a reputation as a jumper. Undoubtedly Lochella, will take a power of bearing, and of tho ethers Lord Nagar, Mill o' Gowrio, and ‘Cynic may do well. For the Cornwall. Parisian Diamond is a big -fancy. If the light-weights. Cashmere and Archie, aro good, they should have a great chance. Th© Great Northern Steeplechase will not bo run till Saturday. On past form it is perfectly right that t Lochella should be the strong favourite he is. Word from Auckland, however, is to tho effect that Garryowen will run well. The acceptance for tho Jervois Handicap (seven furlongs) was so big that the race is to be run in two divisions. Of those -who will run in the first division, Lady Ball is the best, while Royal Abbey and Demoiselle have shown some form."
The second division of the event includes Kareao, whose chance is well fancied by his stable.'
