LICENSING COMMITTEE

QUARTERLY MEETING AT HUTT.

The quarterly meeting of the Hntl Licensing Committee wan hald at Lower Hutt yesterday, those on the bench being Mr W. G- Riddell (chairman), and Messr? W. T. Cotton. M. W- Welch, and A Anderson.

Mrs Bland was granted a transfer c i Iho license of the Central Hotel to J Selway. T Pudney was granted a temporary transfer of license of the Grand National Hotel to Mrs E. Mcßride, and also aduplicate license for one lost by him. J. Selway was granted a license for the Central Hotel, Louisr Hutt, sand J. Donovan a license for the Empire Hotel, Petone. The fallowing renewals were granted i , —A. C. Wright, Central Hotel, Petone: W. Baggstrom, Taita Hotel; Myra Campbell, Victoria Hotel. Petone; Mrs ■ N.. SJfc." Leger, B#l»bvue "Hotel," 1/wvei Hutt; A. T. Gattrell, Bailway Hotel,» Lower Hutt; and Andrew Lees, a whole, sale license.

The chairman said that on the whole the police report was satisfactory, though with regard to one or two hotel* the report, showed that they were not conducted. in the way they should bo. In regard to the Grand* National Hotel, Petone, the report showed that this was ba’dly conducted, and that the buildings and furniture ware in a bad state. The Family Hotel, Lower Hutt, was also stated not to be well conducted, and the tone of the place had much deteriorated during the year. The licensee had been convicted for Sunday, trading.

After consideration, the committee* decided to adjourn the granting of a license' to T. Pudney for the Grand National Hotel tor one month, and in the case of B. C. Reid, of the Family Hotel, the committee stated that, while it could not refuse the license, it had noted the police report, and it would be necessary for the licensee to bring the conduct of the hotel up to the standard of the. other hotels.
