GROWERS . DESIRE ASSISTANCE. TER PRESS ASSOCIATION. WANGANUI, June 2. A deputation from the AVanganul branch of the Hunpai Fruitgrowers Association, yesterday discussed with Mr AV. A. Vcitch, M.P., tho position of orohardists with regard to Government advances to settlers. Mr Acitch admitted tho importance of aiding the industry, but pointed out that the security largely depended on the skill and character of the orchardiste. He thought something might he done on the following lines. Loans might ho made non-traneferable, except with the consent of the Horticultural Department ; loans might he for shorter periods: the regular inspection ot orchards, inspectors having certain powers of control, and an insurance fund against loss, compiled by charging a slightly higher rate of interest on loans; special consideration to districts run on co-operative lines.
