PARLIAMENT
TO OPEN ON JUNE 24th.
On the 24th of the present month the first session of Jsew Zealand’s twentieth Parliament is to he opened by His Excellency the GovernorGeneral, the Earl of The opening ceremony will bo held in the new Legislative Council Chamber, as was the case last year; hut it is not certain whether the council will hold its subsequent meetings in the now chamber, the furnishing of the .chamber itself and of the various rooms attached to it being not yet completed. . • Tlie rush for scats by members of the House of Representatives, except, of course, the occupants of the Treasury Bench and the Front Opposition Bench, has already set in. During the coming session members of the Reform party will overflow on to the cross-benches and the benches to the left of the Speaker’s chair, and the Parliamentary Labour party on the cross-benches" will find itself "surrounded by Reformens. Liberals, and Independents of various hues.
