* ATTEMPT TO SETTLE BROKEN HILL STRIKE.
MELBOURNE, June 1. The chairman of the Broken Hill Block 10 ■is of opinion that a New South Wales Government Commission would successfully terminate the -Barrier strike, which lie deacibed as a world's record. A conference will be held in Sydney on Wednesday. (Received June 1, 9.40 p.m.) A round table conference is to be held to-morrow between the Broken Hill mine proprietox-s and the strikers.

The Sydney University suffers a se\ere loss through Professor Wilson's' acceptance of the Chair of Anatomy at Cambridge University. He recently succeeded to the Dean of Faculty of Medicine. (Received June I, 8.23 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 1.
At the inquiry into the pricft of meat, it was intimated-that-a shortage of supplies was expected.. Mutton could be obtained from cold storage locally and from Victoria and NewZealand. These outside, sources would have to be 'drawn upon whether or not the drought broke.
