CITY FATALITY
A VISITOR'S DEATH KNOCKED DOAVN BY MOTOR LOIIKY. KAR-ORI RESIDENT SERIOUSLY INJURED. A distressing accident ' occurred ehortly before 5 o'clock last evening in Jervois quay, opposite the fire bri* gade station, which resulted in tho death of Mr W. Combs, of Hawke'si Bay, brother of Mr H. E. Combs, oi 23, Konini road, Hataitai, the wellknown secretary of the Post and Tele-* graph Officers' Association. Mr Combs, together with Mr J. Tilley, of Karori, were crossing tiia street, when they were knocked down by a motor lorry. Both were seri~ ously injured, and were quickly re--moved to the hospital. Mr Combs succumbed to his inju.: rie« at 10.30 p.m. It is not known exactly how th« accident happened, and the police were unable last night to supply any information concerning the circunv stances. ■>
Mr Combs, who is a married mai>i forty-two years of age, was in town on busiuess, arid was staying at tho Commercial Hotel. His injuries consisted of severe wounds to his head and shoulders.
Mr J. Tiller- was rather severely injured a"bont the hips and right leg, and at an early hour''this morning it was reported from the hospital that h» wag in a rather serious condition.
