London houses report by cable dated May 2Gth that no auction wasMield last week. Values unchanged. FRUIT AKD VEGETABLES WELLINGTON MARKETS. With lie exception of apples and pears, supplies of New Zealand fruits at tho moment available are only small. In view of the heavy consignments of apples which have been coming to hand tor some time past the market for this line continues very weak. Plentiful supplies of pears are arriving from the south as well as from Nelson, and values for ordinary varieties remain on the low side. Choice dessert pears are scarce, but.(this is no doubt due to the advanced stage of the season. Consignments of pines, mandarins, and passions arrived from Sydney, and choice fruits of the descriptions named met with a good demand. Is 3d to Is 7d lb. At an auction. ot second-hand timber in a building up north high prices were obtained, the average being A 3 15s per ic/;n. There was a great demand for doors and windows, all lots offered being readily sold. The average price for doors was A2 15s. and for windows A 3. A sample ’of Australian chrysolite asbestos, which has been despatched to London, has received a favourable report from a firm of brokers, who slate that "it is white, of good length am! string, and very suitable for asbestos lagging."
