FIRE IN TARANAKI STREET
THE CAUSE UNKNOWN,
An outbreak of fire, which threatened to become serious, occurred at 3.20 o'clock yesterday morning in tho threestoried structure in Taranaki street, known as Prouso's Buildings, but v.-us smartly suppressed by the Fire Brigade The damage, though considerable, is officially set down at not moro than £SOO. Tho fire started on the first floor of the building, used by tho Salvation Army as a tailoring department, and tho flames were justi about to invade the second floor, used as a store by the Defenco Department, when the Fire Brigade .arrived. By good work the fire was soon extinguished. Tho damage was confined to the Salvation Army'B floor, tho furniture of which was insured in tho Atlas offico for £2900. Tho building, owned by T. and "W. Young, for whom Dwan Bros. &re the agents, iff insured for £BOOO in the Commercial Union Office. The ground floor, which was not affected, is occupied by Charles Slymnn (timber merchant), Thompson and Hills (fruit preservers), find Wilson and "Wood (motor garage). Tho cause of the fire ia unknown.
