A large' black fish, somo 15tt in length, has-been washed up near the mouth of the river on the Otaki boaeh.
Mrs Byron Urown, accompanied by Miss Hollings (daughter of Mr P. Rollings, Blenheim's popular magistrate), are on a visit to Otaki. They are staying at the Kiosk. Jlr C S. Williams, medical student nt'the Otiijro University. i,uu jv.-> ~, ~,, and Mrs C. H. Williams, of Otaki, is enjoying a fortnight's holiday here. Nelson Perawiti, a native, was to-day charged, on tho information of Constable Satliork'V. wicu t.j'i.iiiirUi.jj cm--mon assault-on a young girl at Otaki, and with using obscene language. Messrs (J. 11. Williilulß illirl .')! 'i?i: it. J.P.'s, were on*he Bench. Accused, in pleading guilty to both offences, said that he was under the influence of liquor and did not' remember committin'K either 0;' tli,-- nik'Hec*. 'll> .U-. eii pointed out the seriousness of both cases, and stated accused was liable to a yearfs imprisonmentV JFor assault -he would bo fined. £5, or one month in jail, while for obscene language ho would be Amid JS7, in default three months' imprisonment. Accused was also ordered to pay costs'.
