MINING BURSARIES
A DEPUTATION'S SUGGESTION. Press Association. DUNEDIN, June 4. A deputation representing the School of Mines .waited '"on; the Hon. "W. D. S. MacDonald, and urged the Mines Department to offer, say, ten bursaries of £SO, with fees for students living away from home. The deputation suggested that a better use be made of the staff in investigating mining problems. If assistants were provided, Professors Park, AA r aters, and Berison would be aoie to,do something regarding, the research into tho mining problems, of,.tho,..country. The Minister expressed himself in agreement with the deputation. Last year only one man won a bursary. If he had not power to do what was asked, he was prepared to ask his colleagues to vote what was necessary. The country could well afford to have a- thorough expert examination of mineral resources.
