The liner Earanga arrived at r Gisborne yesterday morning from Napier, and is to sail on Sunday .for Wellington to complete Homeward loading. The vessel is to leave Wellington on the 12th. inst. for London via Panama. , THE NEW PORT CURTIS. Further particulars have now been received regarding the Commonwealth and Dominion new steamer Port Curtis, which was purchased from the Imperial Government. It appears that.this sceamer, which is No. 447 ill Messrb vV'orkman Clark's yards, at Belfast, is. one of the "G" type ofstandard steamers. She is 450 ft long by 58ft in breadth, with a moulded depth of 10ft. Her tonnage is SOOO gross, and her capacity is 10.SWJ dead weight at a loaded draught of 29ft. She will displace 16,000 tons. The Port Ourtis has three boilers, 16ft 3in x 20ft 6in, and is designed for a sea speed of 13 knots. TO-DAY'S BEIETHAGE. SALVAGING POET HUNTER. News dated Boston, March Ist, has been received stating that' salvage operations on the steamer Port Hunter, which was wrecked near Nantucket .shoals in October last, were begun on rebrauary 15th Her cargo is valued at almost .£BOO,OOO. The largest items aro 95C9 cases of rubber boots, 5883 bales of leather jerkins, and 6420 bales of cotton undershirts. There are also skin clothes, cobbler kits, flannel shirts, shoea, gloves, and stockings. British and French cargoes on the ship, consisting of machine and automobile parts, are worth :•'.■•'= GLAUCCJS AT DUNEDIN. The Australian steamer Glauciis, wellknown at Wellington, steamed up to Dunedin on Saturday afternoon, and was berthed at the Victoria wharf to discharge 2000 tons of guano from Surprise Island. The vessel left Port ICembla o>*. April 22nd foi Noumea, where she arrived on April 80th. A full cargo of coal was discharged at the New Caledonian port, and the Glauous left on May .10th for Surprise. Island. ' She arrived at an anchorage off the: island oh May 11th and experienced no difficulty in loading her cargo, departure being taken on May 17th direct for Dunedin. Fine weather was experienced until the vessel was approaching Cook .Strait, when she: encountered heavy gales and very high seas, which prevailed until arrival off Otago Heads on Friday afteroon. On completion of discharge the Glauous will go from Dunedin to Bluff to load timber tor Melbourne. ■'.-.• NEW ZEALAND SHIPPING CO. :'!
