NO "GO SLOW"
(To the Editor "N.Z. Times.") Sir,—Allow me to congratulate yon on the British-like tone of your leading article in Monday's issue. A search through the files of the Public Library will reveal that every editor of every daily paper in this Dominion has vilified the miner for the go-slow. I fully appreciate tho position of an editor, who is dependent on tainted news agencies, and biased reports, for the tilling of his paper, and I feel proud that there ie oiib editor in this country who has the courage to retract tho misrepresentations made by liia paper, and at the same time suggest a remedy for the paucity of miners. The job is not attractive at present, but sixpence per ton extra to the miners would go a long way to niako it attractive, and for the sake of that sixpence per ton the public must pay about 30s extra per ton for tho excuse that thero is a scarcity. Are our Ministers so blind as not to see tho advantage of the scarcity to those who engineer that scarcity? J. MILLER. 2/6/19. [While disagreeing with Mr Miller's wholesale condemnation of tho daily Press of the Dominion, we have to thank him for his well-meant complimont to ourselves. At tho same time one must remind him that wo have retracted no misrepresentations for none have been made by this paper.— Ji'd. "-N.Z. Times."]
