SHAHHUH, June 2, The Mayor (Mr W. Murdoch) has given nonce of motion for next meeting of tne council tnat the resolution passed at the meeting of the council, held on May 7th, voting £lO to the Peace Celebrations, bo rescinded. A meeting will bo held next week in conj unction with the epidemic committee, to make preparatory arrangements in case of a further outbreak.
During a game at Manakau between the Shannon fifteen and the Manakau team, G. O’llegan sustained injuries to two of his ribs. Despite the cold evening Shannon residents turned out in large numbers to welcome borne Lieutenant J. Curran, dapper W Moynihan. and Private L. ivoodxnass. The Mayor, in welcoming ‘lie soldiers, paid a special tribute to Lieutenant Curran, whom, he said, had .eft Hew Zealand with the Main Body as a private, saw considerable service both on Gallipoli and France, and winning his spurs on the field, a feat of which any man might feel proud. Mr and Mrs A. baunders, who have been residents of this district for a number of years, intend leaving. They have both been active members of the local Presbyterian Church, and they will be tendered a fitting farewell during the week.
