WATERSIDERS’ BALLOT
EMPLOYERS’ OFFER ACCEPTED. The national ballot of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ -Federation has resulted in acceptance of the employers’ second offer of, an increase in pay, by a majority of 3196 -rotes. The first offer of the employers which wa» rejected by ballot involved %n increiea of 2d per hour. At a subsequent conference the offer was altered to one of 2d per hour increase for ordinary time and 3d per hour for overtime. This brings the rates up to: —Ordinary time: general ■ cargo 2s per bout coal 2s Id. Overtime : ' 2a lid and Si', respectively. The results of the two . ballots are as follow: —; 'First.' Second; For acceptance ...... 1708 3627 ■ Against 2167 431 Informal - 89 26 Totals 3914 ■ 4084 The majority , against acceptance p* the first ballot was 469. The majority for acceptance at the second hallo* 1 was 3190. The new agreement, which provides for retrospective pay, will remain, i» operation till the end of this year.
