EMPRESS THEATRE.

On Saturday. at the Empress _ a crowded attendance witnessed the initial screening of a grand double bill. The inimitable Charles Chaplin appeared in his burlesque of the grand opera “Oarmon,” and he was responsible for much laughter. On tho same bill “Chip Monahan” and his juvenile company appeared in a burlesque of Chaplin’s burlesque, and they were screamingly funny. The original burlesque was travestied in a touching, yet ludicrous manner, and the cleverness of the imitation that flatters, is very apparent when tho original is seen along with the juvenile performance. The other attraction was a very interesting drama entitled “Vanitv and Sabirs,” adapted from one of O. Henry’s stories. Wallace Macdonald, Mildred Manning, arid Robert Gaillard are featured in the film story, which is built around the gift f an emancipated crook now an honest and hard-working plumber, who presents his lady friend with a set of imitation sables, and leads her to believe that they are genuine. The story has some very dramatic moments. and interwoven in it is a delightful love romance. The supporting picture was a most interesting gazette, de-pfci,ing captured German TT-ibon'U and English “K” ships. A special attraction was nrovided. consisting of a vooal item, “The Light That's Burning in the Window.” feelingly rendered bv Mr C. Melvin. Tho same programme will bo presented again this •vanmg.
