THE WORLD PEACE
AN OPEN LETTER TO REAL LABOUR.
To tho Editor "N.Z. Times,
•Sir, —The letter of Air J. T. M. Xiornsuy, M.T., puu.isucd ih your issue <»t ia one mat suouid ue reaa oy every eiccior in tne Dominion, auu it is to be Hoped time other papers tuau yours, it it can he done enrougn newspaper etiquette, as it puts tile position oi iiaHour ana their duty to the biule, mat it suouui ue puoushed fur tne benefit of all riguc-tmuking people. Unfortunately uie workers, outside of the wnurf itioourers, who earn tiieir living m positions as employees, are so lucimerent to their own interests, and m consequence uo not take tue trouu.e Co consider what their indilference may mean at tho ensuing elections, if they do not wak© up at once and realise tho danger to tho country due to the ©nergy of those individuals who have no real stake in it. but seek to become leaders m order to rule the country according to their ideas, which is nothing but disorder. There are thousands who call themselves the workers, who listen to the diatribes of their so-called loaders, and without thinking of wHut the result may be, put some of these persons into Parliament. Labour should be represented iu Parliament, but not by a portion who, by noise and writings in their particular publications, want to stir up the lowest feelings of humanity to serve their political ends; the result of such would be worse also than that shown by the Germans.
Why do not all tho workers of both sexes, outside the few who arrogate to themselves the right to be called lenders, join together and appoint some of themselves to meet and discuss tho questions of the day, more particularly those relating to tho cost of living, as that Is the most important one. What is wanted is a body of persons elected to represent nil classes of the community, and work together for the benefit of the whole, irrespective of whether a certain set of men or another set should run the country. TJhis can bo done by doing away with the present mode, and let the rcouso elect its own directors, the same as is done by public companies, as after all tho community is like one big company, therefore all should be represented in it. A WELL-WISHER. May 27th, 1919.
