AUOii-LAxVU, May '2D. The annual meeting of the .New Zea land Jb.'aruiers' Company was held today. Xne report stated thai, tu<cost of the works' was estimated at £318,000, accounted for by the decreases purchasing power of the sovereign and .the increased cost of materials. The balance-sheet to March 31st showed iil/,544, for which there wat> no visible asset. This expenditure covered three and a-half years and was generally accounted for by preliminary expenses and brokerage.' Generally, sjjeaiung the affairs were more satisfactory than anticipated by some shareholders.
Dissatisfaction was expressed by southern delegates that the southern districts were not represented on the directorate. The explanation given was that this would mean an alteration of the articles of association. The directors were quite willing to make such provision as soon as possible 1 The report and balance-sheet were adopted. A cordial vote of thanks was passed to the directors for tho manner an which they had conducted the business of the company.
The retiring directors, Messrs G. T. Bajrly, H. B. Mclvenzio, and Somer rilde were re-elected, arid the retiring auditors were also N re-elected.
