PREFERENCE TO SOLDIERS
Amended regulations gazetted yesterday under the Public Service Act, 1912, provide that appointments will be made according to the order of . merit in the list of applicants who have p&ssed tho entrance examination: Pror> -vided thai, if any person is availablo and otherwise eligible who has at any time passed the civil servjc*e examination, qr the matriculation examination of the _ New Zealand University, although in any of these cases he may not have passed the entrance examination, he ahall take iirecedence over .candidates who have passed the entrance examination only; and provided further that the Commissioner may, if he tiinks fit, give preference to an applicant who is an honouraibly discharged member of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and who has at any time _ t passed the entrance examination or its "'equivalent.
