MAGISTRATE'S COURT
POLICE AND CIVIL CASES.
Mr IT. V. Erazer, S.M., presided over yesterday's sitting of the Magistrate's Court. John James Allen, on a charge of having failed to provide his wifo, Ethel May Allen, with adequate means of maintenance was remanded to appear at Dunedin on Alohday, June 2nd. Bail was allowed in a sum of £IOO, with one surety of £IOO, or two of £SO each. Albert Edward Webley, who appeared on remand charged with trespassing on his wife's property at Lower liutt during the currency of a separation order, was convicted and discharged. Constable Frost said he was called to remove defendant from his wife's premises. Webley was sitting on the dooistep of the house in a muddled condition. He had been drinking heavily foi somo time and on the way to the police station was so weak that he was com pelled to sit down every few yards to rost. The defendant's >son stated that his father had lost a lifelong position through his drinking habits. A comfortable home was found for him, but it did not hayo the, desired effect. His condition was such that medical advice Was obtained, and tho doctor, after an examination, stated that the defendant should bo sent away to the inebriates' island in his own interests. .CIVIL CASES. ' In the following undefended cases judgment was given for plaintiff by default:—The Commercial Agency, Ltd., and Johnston and Company, Ltd. v. J. Stevenson £lB 14s, costs £2 18s 6d; K.ime and AV: Wiggins, Ltd. v. Thomas Fowler ;£1 -Is, costs only; O. C. Sudeby v. B. E. Williams £5 5s 9d, costs 8s Gd; diaries Langdon v. C. McDovtgall 10a costs only; Osmond and Son (N.'Z,.), Ltd. v. A. Lurcher 12s, costs 12s; W. T. Johnston v. H. G. Bates £ls, costs £1 Ms Cd. JUDGMENT SUMMONSES. In judgment summons cases J. E. Stanley was ordered to pay Veitch and Allen £1 lis TOd forthwith, or go to jail for 48 hours, the warrant to bo suspended for seven days; Robert Welsford is to pay Henry James Spargo £4O 5s forthwith, in default to be imprisoned Tor six works, tho warrant to ho suspended so long as 7s Gd per weok is paid; G. C. Warren is to pay the British mid Continental Pinno Com. pany £lO 5s by instalments of 10a per week; and E. Shaw is to pay 8. G. Kadford £6 5s 6d forthwith, in default to be imprisoned for five days, the warrant to oa suspended for one weak.
