WELLINGTON HARMONIC SOCIETY
The first concert of the 1910 season of the Wellington ■ Harmonic Society is to ba given in the concert chamber of the Town Hall oh Saturday, at'B P.m. The selection of part songs to be given is possibly the best that has ever been given by the society, which, under the conductorship of Mr H. Temple White, is singing ns well-ns ever it did. Six of the eight part songs to bo, given will be unaccompanied, ana for the remaining two tlie accompaniments will be' played by Mr Harold Whittle. ‘ Among the society’s numbers will be "The Bells of St." Michaels Tower'. (Stqwart), "The Lee Shore" (Coleridge-Taylor), ."As Torrents in Summei" (Elgar),' and "The Dawn of Songf* (Bairstow), while the concluding item of the programme will bo the stirring choral ode by Dr t'hallinor, "A Song of the Sea." Assisting the society there will bo an instrumental quartet (piano, Ist and 2nd violins, and "cello), which will - play - ■ "Hungarian Dance" (Brahms) and "Minuet” (Beethoven). The male quartet, which was successful in winning the unaccompanied male quartet section at the recent Wellington competitions .(and which is drawn from the ranks, of-tho society), 'will contribute Sullivan’s "The Long:. Day Closes,” a rare gem for male, voices, and "In. Absence” (Dudley Buck).. :The box plan, is filling rapidly at the Bristol, where tickets may be obtained, and seats booked without extra charge.’ i
