MAORI TEAM DEFEATS SOUTHLAND. Press associationINVERCARGILL. May 2S. Despite a greasy ball a- fast open game was witnessed when the Maoris met Southland. A wing forward was not played. The visitors, with the wind in the first spell, held the upper hand, attacking with brilliant passing move ments and putting on three tries, two of which were converted, to Southland » nil. In the second half the Southland forwards showed stronger form, but the game continued open and attractive to tho end, the Maoris winning by eighteen joints (four tries, three of which were converted) to eight (a converted try and a goal from a mark. SELECTION OF REPRESENTATIVE TEAM. . The following players will attend tho Poneke gymnasium to-morrow at 8 p.m., when the team which is to meet the Maori Pioneer Battalion on June 3rd, at A thletic Park, will bo finally selected ileley, B.
