LOYALISTS WORKNG UNDER POLICE PROTECTION. (Received May 28, lO.jk) p.m.) MELBOURNE, May 28. Four thousand five hundred men have been rendered idle by the strike. Increasing numbers of loyalists are working under police protection. 'The strikers attempted to rush thewharf wliere loyalists were unloading a steamer. They were easily defeated by a strong body of police.

QUEENSLAND WATER SIDERS’ ATTITUDE.

SYDNEY, May 28. The Watersiders’ Federation nas received advices from its Brisbane branch than the men in Brisbane are prepared to work inter-Stato cargo from oversea ships, provided that such cargo is loaded entirely by watersiders’ labour. It is unlikely that the owners will agree to this, -as it would mean the abandonment of preference to loyalists, who are at present loading oversea steamers.
