SOLDIERS’ DEBTS
BUSINESS MEN DOUBTFUL ABOUT REGULATIONS. Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, May 28. Representative* of the Chamber of Commerce interviewed Sir James Allen, asking that the gazette regulation dat>ed May 2nd, designed to protect soldiers from exploitation, be made clear. The deputation stated that business people doubt whether the regulation applied to debts incurred by soldiers after they became civilians; again, it it did apply that way, it- would operate against returned soldiers, because business people, to protect themselves, would insist on returned soldiers paying cash. The Minister said the Government wished to protect returned soldiers, but not injure their credit. He did not think the regulation would apply after the men became civilians, but he would ask the Attorney-General and have the meaning of the regulation siade quite clear.
