REPORTER DROWNED

Press Association. DUNEDIN. May 28. The body of Mr .Janies Joseph Walsh, a reporter employed on the “Daily Times" stall, was found in the harbour this morning, close to the Victoria wharf. The deceased attended a meeting last night. It is concluded he went for a walk on the wharf after the meeting, and by some means fell into the water. There was evidence of his having endeavoured to climb out by means of a rope which was attached to the wharf and a pile driver. Deceased saw service at the front, and was wounded. Ho recently returned. Ho was formerly on the literary staff of the “Lyttelton Times," and before that was in the teaching profession His ago was 27 years. At the inquest the evidence showed that deceased was present at a meeting of returned soldiers last night. Hh was last scon at about 9.30. When found the body was fully clothed, including hat and overcoat. The deceased left Now Zealand in the 14th Reinforcement, returning in January. Ho had been wounded in the knee and gassed. Since returning he had shown signs of nervous affection, but was naturally of a bright disposition. A verdict Was returned of found drowned. Deceased’s relatives reside at Opawu, Christchurch.
