TECHNICAL EDUCATION
MONTHLY BOARD MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Technical Education Board was held last night; Mr G. Frost presiding. The other members present were:—Messrs T. Ballinger, T. Forsyth, J. J. Wallace, J. IK Shand, 11. M. Gore,'J. J. Clarke, Laurence. L. R. Partridge, and G. L. Stewart, The financial statement showed receipts for the month totalling .£ll9l 16s lOd, as against £i3S 16a 3d for the same period of last year; and expenditure totalling £S7S Os 9d compared with £978 13s lld; leaving a credit balance of ,£IBO 9s 3d, as against a debit balance of .£331 lis 5d last year. Accounts to the amount of £169 7s 6d were passed for payment. . On the motion of the chairman, continued leave of absence on account of illness was granted to .Mr Howell, the newly-appointed director, of the Technical College. "Mr Bolton, the acting-direc-tor. expressing his , willingness-to carry on in the meantime. The board resolved to proceed os speedily as possible with the preparation of the foundations for the new Technical College on the Mount Cook site, in order to take advantage of an offer from the Minister for Justice (the Hon. T. M. Wilford) Of prison labour for the purpose. It was decided to call for competitive designs for the building, based on the plans prepared by Mr W. S. La Trobc, ex-direc-tor of the college. It was decided to offer a first prize of £l5O, to merge into the commission if the plans are gone on with, a second of £75, and a third of £SO; and the building committee was empowered to draw up the conditions of the competition ami advertise for designs.
