The Grand Trunk Koad of India is, perhaps, the most astonishing highway in the whole world. This road is over 3000 years old, and is 1400 miles in length. It runs through the vast northern plain which skirts the Him alavas, and is as straight a« if ruled with a tee square. This highway is composed of three distinct roads, only the centro one being of hard metal. A double bank of trees flank either side, and converts the whole into a stately avenue, which stretches like a white-and-green ribbon from horizon to horizon.
